Malibu and Conditioning
With the fall and winter seasons creeping in I think I will post some hair savers!
Our mothers taught us how to brush our teeth, scrub behind our ears, and wash our hair.... but how about the correct use of conditioner?!? Here is the trick... After you finish washing your hair with your shampoo and warm water... (preferably a brand that isn't damaging your hair more with harsh sulfates and more water added than actual shampoo ingredients!)- I use Color Care by Regis , Olive Oil by Design Line, and Biologe by Matrix- .... use a towel to absorb some of the water until your hair is more damp than dripping. Apply your conditioner... (again a brand that will actually moisturize your hair and not wax coat it)... according to the manufactures' directions. Start from the ends and work up. After application place hair in shower cap or wrap in towel for at least ten minutes. Rinse hair with cool to lukewarm water, this will close the cuticle of your hair and hold the moisture inside!
Another good hair saver for not only winter, chemical, and heat wear but also hard water and chlorine swimming are Malibu treatments. Usually these can be performed in a salon and are relatively inexpensive in relation to the amount of good they do! I have been using Malibu treatments regularly every two months. This average can be higher depending on how often I lighten my new growth or how often I change the overall color of my hair. Malibu offers several regular hair care and skin products (none of which i've tried yet, but several friends have and have had very good results!) as well as weekly blonde brightening packets.

The last hair saver as well as scalp saver are Deep Conditioning or Scalp Treatments. Depending on your scalp and or hair condition they can be done usually once a month. These services are also provided in a salon and once you start using them it is impossible to stop! Every time I have received a scalp treatment and or deep conditioning I left fully satisfied and relaxed. A scalp treatment will remove any dry flakes (commonly called dandruff) and the massage will increase blood flow to the scalp which is a good jumpstart to your own natural oils keeping your hair healthy.
I hope some of this will help your hair healthy and beautiful this winter :)

Through the lense
As some of you know I freelance in photography. Today, as I was shooting through my canon it occurred to me how wonderful a picture is. We have all heard the saying.... A picture is worth a thousand words... and how true it is! You can capture the innocence of a baby's smile, the depth of knowledge in an old man's eyes, and the trust captured in the profile "I do". A designer works all year for five minutes of shooting his masterpiece, and the mother enthusiastically takes fifty pictures of her firstborn blowing out her candles. Whether it's for the chance to secure a contract or the ability to hold a memory, photography can be one of the greatest love affairs of mankind. I can say for myself the thrill I get from being able to preserve a look is priceless! Thank you Joseph Nicephore Niepce for that eight hour summer day in 1827!

STATE BOARDS!!!!!
If you looked up nervous in the dictionary, you would see a picture of me twisting my fingers and trying not to shake! I came prepared... maybe a little more than prepared, but that didn't help my sad case. I washed my hands until raw, sanitized my implements even when I didn't need to, and cleaned my sink twice every time I used it. Thats the good news... now for the bad... My haircut just wouldn't be a perfect 90! I checked it side to side, front to back, section to section! Yet, when the proctor checked I saw those terrible pieces poking out! How did they get there!!!! Why did they not show themselves when I sought them!!!! Grrr... then came the four on base curls... Yes the hair was supposed to be three inches minimum, but what if your models hair was thick and coarse? Oh, If I only had an extra inch... those horrible little sausage curls would form! Every time I curled that hair and released, the curl would unroll and stand up! Well... at least it was on base. I finished and went home with my heart sinking to the bottom of my chest....
Now for the waiting... It felt like forever.... I certainly was doomed... How could I not anticipate those problems... I've curled my models hair before, I knew it was stubborn! How could I have missed those pieces?... I really took my time!.... Oh, why can't the proctor just tell you right away how terrible you did?.... still waiting.... but my torture wasn't forever... the letter came....
94! I passed!!!! oh gosh, I guess I wasn't that bad;)
